Professional dental labs offer dentists access to precise denture fabrication processes. At Mabel Dental Lab, we provide three lines of dentures: advantage, standard, and premium to meet your patients’ needs. We create each dental appliance with careful attention to skin tone, teeth form, and arrangement for a high-quality result. Here are three steps involved in making dentures with the help of a lab:
1. Mold Delivery
Once the mold or impression of the patient’s mouth is complete, send a completed prescription Rx form and mold to the lab. The mold can be either a physical imprint or a digital file. The technicians at our dental labs use these impressions to check that the device’s fit and application align with your patient’s anatomy and needs. When packing a physical mold, use bubble wrap to prevent the impression from shifting during shipping. If there are several cases, each imprint must have a separate bag. Label each bag with specific prescriptions. This allows our team to identify each case and product type, such as partials, dentures, or other removable devices.
Sending digital impressions allows our team to reduce the number of remakes and avoid fit and occlusion issues. The Mabel Dental Lab team uses various impression systems to make sure restorations are accurate. We use multiple scanner systems for digital impressions, such as 3M ESPE or Cadent iTero. To send scans or export your STL files, we recommend sending them to our email or directly contacting us if you run into any issues. STL files must be exported to begin the fabrication process.
2. Fabrication
The lab’s fabrication process depends on the number and type of items your patients need. For our advantage or premium line, we use Lucitone 199®, a denture base material that is industry standard. It offers high-impact resistance and strength. It’s available in a variety of shades, such as original, light, reddish pink, and dark pink. We offer this foundation with metal frameworks or flexible materials. Here are some of the fabrication steps and materials used for other products:
Implant Overdentures
If a patient struggles to keep their prosthetic in place due to bone resorption, they’ll need a device with retention and stability. Implant overdentures use metal implants placed in the maxilla and mandible jaws. These implants include materials like titanium and Dentsply Vitallium® 2000 framework. We use the purest forms of chrome cobalt alloy to avoid nickel and beryllium. We create a sculpture of the teeth and gums to build these frames and make sure they fit properly.
Flexible Partials
For dentists and patients who prefer flexible dentures, we offer TCS Unbreakable materials made of thermoplastic nylon, which is lighter than metal. The plastic’s original form is small, colored beads in the patient’s preferred gumline shade. We melt down these beads and pour them into a mold that our technicians previously sculpted. This offers patients a comfortable fit while providing aesthetic appeal. The flexible material may also be combined with a metal framework for increased stability. Options for metal framework include clear or tooth-colored clasps that produce a natural look.
Acrylic Partials
Removable acrylic partials help maintain the position of the teeth without wire clasps. The production process involves creating a physical mold to lay the acrylic base and bond it to the prosthetic teeth. Prosthetic teeth are hand sculpted and cast into a resin, giving realistic translucency to match the patient’s existing teeth. These devices help restore anterior esthetics and keep the remaining teeth in position. An acrylic flipper requires diagnostic and prosthetic approval from the doctor and patient.
VisiClear Framework
One of Mabel Dental Lab’s newer products is a clear, flexible framework device. The color of the flexible material matches the surrounding teeth and tissue in the patient’s mouth. VisiClear is resistant to bacteria, odors, and stains. The framework’s materials allow patients to adjust the dental device to confirm it fits comfortably.
3. Turnaround Times
The turnaround time for a patient’s denture varies depending on the type of order. The average timeframe for fabricating flexible partials, metal frames, or a combination is about eight days. It may be six days if digital impressions are sent instead of physical molds. Most clients receive their orders within eight business days, excluding holidays or weekends. Dentists can request a rush service, but it needs to be scheduled by contacting our team directly through email or phone.
